Project: building of wooden deck with stairs

Date: To be determined

Location: 236 Raymond Rd, Monroe, TN 38573

Event Description: Highland AMVETS Post 44 is excited to announce a community service event to build a deck and a set of stairs from the deck to the ground at the Scalici farm. This project is another fantastic opportunity to come together to respond to the call of a veteran in need. Many hands make light work, and veterans form a special community that takes care of their own. Join us to make a difference for an AMVETS brother.

Volunteer Information:

  • Who Can Help: We need individuals to serve as Safety Observers, Picture Takers, and those physically doing work such as building, lifting and handling tools.
  • Attire: If you have a grey AMVETS work shirt and/or AMVETS hats, please wear them, as we will be taking photos during the build.
  • Seating: Folding metal chairs will be available (bring your own cushion). This is a great chance to assist or simply chat with fellow volunteers.
  • Weather: High 72F partly cloudy skies, low chance of rain.
  • Food/Refreshments: Ralph will be supplying lunch for those that come out for the project. We will have water bottles and gatorade on ice, but you are welcome to bring your own beverages.
  • Shade: Jim Mardis will provide a 10x10 popup canopy for additional shade if needed.

Preparation:

  • Materials: AMVETS trailer with tools, chairs, etc. will be staged on-site. You are welcome to bring your own tools, and bring work gloves if you have them.
  • Pre-Build Work: Ralph will be procuring the lumber and staging it at the site, and he will also prepare the area so it's ready for work on Saturday.

Directions: From Cookeville, head north on Hwy 111 for 19 miles, continue onto W Maint St in Livingston for 1.8 miles, turn left onto TN-294 N/E Main St for 6 miles, turn left onto Jaybird Rd for 4.2 miles, turn left onto Taylor Crossroads Rd for 1.4 miles, turn right onto Old Stover St for .6 miles, continue straight onto Raymond Rd for .3 miles, and the property will come up on the right side. Look for the AMVETS banner at the entrance, and careful when parking not to run over the small trees.

Contact: For questions, please contact Ralph at (931) 261-4480

Join us in making a positive impact in our community. Your participation and support are greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you there!
