A Day of Brotherhood and Service for a Fellow Veteran

ree

On Saturday, August 9, 2025, Highland AMVETS Post 44 joined forces with Post 90 and Post 36 for a special mission: building a back porch deck for our long-time AMVETS brother, Ralph, a proud Navy veteran and loyal friend

This multi-post project brought together 29 members and 2 additional volunteers, some traveling from as far as Chattanooga, to stand shoulder to shoulder in service. In just four hours under a beautiful, warm, sunny sky, we accomplished more than just constructing a porch...we demonstrated the enduring power of the brotherhood forged in uniform.

Purpose in Action

From start to finish, the air was filled with high spirits, good camaraderie, and a shared sense of purpose. Every hammer swung and every board set in place was an act of love for a brother in need.

The highlight wasn’t just the finished deck, but the fellowship that came with it...proof that service doesn’t end when we hang up the uniform; it simply takes on new forms. Projects like this remind us that our mission to look out for one another is just as vital now as it was during our years of active duty.

Fellowship and Gratitude

Ralph and his family showed their appreciation in true Southern fashion: treating the crew to a feast of barbeque burgers and hot dogs with all the fixings. And of course, no one will soon forget Ralph’s wife’s world-famous rum cake. Though Commander Dwayne assured us it would be safely “stored away” in his belly for long-term preservation!

The Role of Our Supporters

While our members provided the muscle, our donors provided the means, and we couldn’t have done it without them. Whether it’s a local business sponsoring materials, a neighbor contributing supplies, or someone giving a single dollar to our Post, every bit fuels this mission.

Even the smallest contributions ripple outward, helping us purchase tools, fund projects, and reach more veterans in need. We want our supporters to know: you’re not just donating to a cause, you’re investing in real-life moments like this, where veterans come together to change a fellow brother or sister’s life.

How You Can Get Involved

If this story inspires you, there are many ways to be part of what we’re building (literally and figuratively):

  • Volunteer Your Time – Lend a hand on our next project, no matter your skill level.

  • Support Financially – Even the cost of a cup of coffee can help us serve a veteran in need.

  • Spread the Word – Share our stories and invite others to join this mission.

  • Partner as a Local Business – Sponsor a project and make a visible difference in your community.

To learn how to get involved or contribute, contact Highland AMVETS Post 44 today. Together, we can continue to honor the commitment we made to one another, long after the uniform comes off.

We still have more projects to come in our community project initiative. Stay tuned!

To connect, support, or refer a veteran in need, visit our website or reach out to the Post directly. We’re proud of what we’re building, and there’s room for you in it.

Photos from the day are included below. Camaraderie, laughter, fellowship, and showing up for each other the best way we know how.
