The Highland AMVETS March Monthly Meeting was conducted successfully, featuring a strong sense of community, insightful discussions, and delicious Mexican cuisine from El Jimador Taqueria & Grill. With the addition of new members and engaging guest speakers, this gathering highlighted the organization’s dedication to supporting veterans and their families. It served as a reminder of the power of connection and advocacy.
A Flavorful Start with El Jimador Taqueria & Grill
The evening kicked off with attendees enjoying a delightful dinner from El Jimador Taqueria & Grill, where the menu featured delicious beef and chicken tacos with all the helpings. Sharing meals has long been a way to build bonds. This time was no exception, as veterans and their families connected over the rich flavors and warm atmosphere.
Welcoming New Members
A significant highlight of the evening was the swearing-in of nine new members! This influx of fresh faces is an indication of the need for community among the veteran population. Cookeville and surrounding areas have a large veteran presence, and it is encouraging to see the inner strength of our vets stepping out and reaching for connection and fellowship.
Inspirational Guest Speakers
The evening was elevated by the contributions of two impactful guest speakers:
The first speaker, Kim Levy, from Globe Life, introduced a no-cost family planning kit designed for veterans. This resource helps veterans and their families access essential information related to family planning, crucial for managing both current and future well-being. The kit benefits include: $2,000 AD&D certificate, a family information guide, burial & will kit, No Veteran Left Behind, Sponsorship program, AIL Plus Program, and Child Safe ID kits. Such a seamless process not only ensures continuity of leadership but also emphasizes a shared commitment to advancing the organization’s vision.
Emergency Project Announcement
An urgent project announcement during the meeting focused on supporting Craig Thiele, rallying volunteers for yard maintenance and tree removal. Further information will be disseminated via email and another event post here.
