The October Highland AMVETS meeting was a success once again! We came together to enjoy a delightful meal from O'Charley's, exchanged stories and resources, and planned to offer essential support to our brothers and sisters in need.
As we reflect on the importance of supporting our veterans, we want to emphasize the importance of veterans pursuing their disability compensation. If you or someone you know has not yet taken this step, we encourage you to reach out to our Veteran Service Officer, Mark Harris, at (931) 526-2432. With years of experience helping veterans navigate the complex claims process, Mark is dedicated to ensuring you receive the benefits you deserve.

New Members, Sisters-In-Arms!
Two new members joined Highland AMVETS Post 44, and it was a big deal for our community. Bringing these new members on board gave us a fresh boost, reinforcing our promise to service and unity while supporting veterans and their families.
As we look ahead, several exciting events are planned for veterans in our community. These gatherings offer veterans a chance to connect and access valuable resources and support vital for their well-being.
Upcoming Events for Veterans
1. Veteran's Parade on November 8th
Mark your calendars for the Veteran's Parade on November 8th! Each year, hundreds of veterans from every branch of the military participate, and the parade attracts thousands of locals eager to recognize their bravery and dedication. Bring your family and friends for a shared experience of gratitude and celebration as we line the streets to cheer for our heroes.

2. Veteran Resource Fair on November 12th
VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System will host a Veterans Resource Fair, Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, from 4 – 7 p.m. CDT, at Tennessee Tech University's Roaden University Center.
During the free event, Veterans will learn about VA programs, like the Women Veterans Program, Caregiver Support Program, Community Care, and more! Eligible Veterans will have the opportunity to enroll in VA health care and apply for a Veteran Health Identification Card. Additionally, Tennessee Department of Veterans Services and Putnam County Veterans Service Office will be available for questions and support.
A speaking engagement will feature leadership from VA, and will begin at 5:30 p.m. CDT.
3. Texas Roadhouse Free Meal Vouchers on November 11th
In honor of Veteran's Day, Texas Roadhouse will provide free meal vouchers to veterans on November 11th. This kind gesture shows appreciation for our heroes. However, we need volunteers to help distribute these vouchers from 11 AM to 2 PM. If you can lend a hand, please join us in making this day special and meaningful for our veterans.
4. Remote Area Medical Event on March 21-22 in Cookeville
Looking further ahead, the Remote Area Medical event is scheduled for March 21-22 in Cookeville. This two-day event offers free medical, dental, and vision care to those in need. If you're in need of care or know someone who might be, mark your calendar for this invaluable opportunity. Learn more at: https://www.ramusa.org/events/cookeville-tn-2026/
Ongoing Support and Projects
As we continue to support our veterans, numerous projects are aimed at helping our brothers and sisters in arms. One significant initiative is the Jim Porch Build, planned for November 8th, which will be a Team Tennessee event designed to foster camaraderie and support among veterans in the state at large. Stay tuned for notifications about these projects and find out how you can contribute to make a difference in our veterans' lives.

Addressing Challenges
We understand that many veterans may be facing challenges, especially with the recent government shutdown affecting numerous support programs. If you or someone you know has been impacted, we urge you to speak up. Reach out to Commander Dwayne or Chaplain for assistance. It's essential that no veteran feels isolated during difficult times. With over 2 million veterans living in the U.S. and many facing financial hardships, supporting each other can significantly improve their situation.
Moving Forward Together
As we come together to support our veterans, let's remember the value of community. The upcoming events and resources available are just a few ways we can show our appreciation and provide support to those who have served.
Whether it’s attending the Veteran's Parade, volunteering at the Texas Roadhouse event, or reaching out to our VSO Mark Harris for help with disability compensation, every action counts. Together, we can empower our heroes and ensure they receive the support they deserve.
Let’s continue to look out for our brothers and sisters in arms, fostering a community that values and uplifts our veterans. Stay engaged, stay informed, and together, let's make a difference!
