Highland AMVETS Multi-Post Initiative: A Community Triumph in Decatur TN

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, the Highland AMVETS Multi-Post Initiative recently conducted an impressive project in Decatur, Tennessee. Their main focus was to renovate the front deck and build a back deck with added steps and handrails for Ms. Pat Everitt, a veteran and widow who greatly needed assistance. This project not only transformed an essential part of her home but also exemplified the power of teamwork and dedication within the community.

The initiative gathered a commendable turnout, with participation from several Post members, demonstrating the power of unity and the heart of veterans to serve the community. Led by Post 44 Commander Dwayne, the event also saw help from members of Post 90, Post 911, Post 22, and Post 104. Together, their joint efforts successfully revitalized Ms. Pat’s deck area, allowing her to regain safe access to her home.

The Project’s Success and Importance

The successful completion of the renovations left Ms. Pat thrilled, expressing her gratitude with heartfelt words: “Prayers answered!” Such reactions highlight the emotional impact of projects like this on recipients. For those involved in the construction and coordination, there is immense satisfaction in witnessing their efforts translate into significant changes for someone in need.


Commander Dwayne's leadership in facilitating this event garnered praise from Department of Tennessee Commander Frank K., who emphasized how crucial it is to have strong leaders in community service events. His commendation serves as encouragement for others to step forward, rally volunteers, and make a difference in serving those who have served our country.


As a gesture of camaraderie and goodwill, Post 90 invited all attendees to a delicious meal of burgers, refreshments, and a whole lot of fellowship. There couldn't have been a better way to end the day. Thank you Post 90, the brotherhood is strong!
